Start with what Google actually documents

AI search can make it tempting to rebuild everything around a new acronym. For a small business, the more useful question is what helps a customer understand the business and take a sensible next step.

Google's guidance on AI features and websites says the existing SEO fundamentals apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode. It does not require a special AI text file or a new kind of structured data. Eligibility does not guarantee inclusion.

That is a useful limit on the work to prioritize. It is not a claim about how every AI platform discovers or cites websites.

Make the business understandable

Review the pages as if a visitor knows nothing about you. Can they identify the services, the area served, and how an enquiry works?

Use headings that describe the content. Keep important explanations available as text instead of putting everything inside a graphic. Add photographs or demonstrations where they help explain something real.

These are practical editorial choices. They also make the website easier to check and maintain.

Answer questions you can answer well

A local business does not need to write about every industry topic. Start with the questions that matter before someone hires you.

A customer might ask what information is needed for a quote, whether a service includes maintenance, or how a project review works. Answer within the limits of what the business actually offers.

Google's people-first content guidance emphasizes useful, reliable information for an intended audience. A page should leave the reader better informed rather than repeat a popular search phrase.

Keep technical work proportionate

Ask your developer to check whether useful pages can be crawled and indexed, whether internal links work, and whether any structured data reflects the visible page.

Do not add speculative claims to markup or mark up reviews that do not exist. A technical change should have a reason you can explain.

For the traditional search foundations, read the local SEO checklist.

Decide what success looks like

A citation in an AI answer can be interesting, but it is not the business outcome itself. Useful enquiries, suitable customers, and accurate information are better reasons to maintain the site.

Keep a record of what changed and which enquiries followed. Avoid attributing a sale to one search feature when you do not have the evidence.

Spend effort where it helps

For a small site, the next useful action may be replacing unclear service copy, adding real project context, or fixing the contact form. A complete platform rebuild is rarely the only possible response to a change in search.

If you need a clearer foundation, see Buxi’s website services. For custom AI systems themselves, the separate Draev website explains that work.
